Żebbuġ residents will soon be able to receive nutritional health services at a public dispensary [berġa] in their town, Health Minister Chris Fearne said on Friday.
The dispensary, which has just undergone renovation, already offers doctor and nurse services three times a week and speech and language pathology services from Monday to Friday.
It will soon add nutritionist, dietician and lifestyle health services to that list, in an attempt to help people avoid nutrition-based health problems, such as diabetes and high blood pressure.
The services will be available to Żebbuġ residents by appointment, primary healthcare department CEO Rosanne Camilleri said.
Around 270 patients visit the Żebbuġ site for medical services every month, with another 100 obtaining speech and language pathology services there.
There are 54 government dispensaries across Malta and Gozo, serving an estimated 210,000 patients every year.
