Zebbug Rangers FC

I refer to correspondence by Philip J. Borg (July 21) to add for the record that Zebbug Rangers started off as an associate member with the MFA, below 3rd Division status, making it later to the top premier division during the presidency of Paul Borg and Stalwart J. Fava with Robert Gatt standing guard between the goal posts.

At the very start we could hardly fit in the required 11 players. I personally had to rope in university medical students J. Cassar as goalkeeper and J. Galea as half-back (later both medical doctors) as well as a British serviceman to make up the required 11.

Of course, we are all grateful for the excellent work carried out by Philip Borg and John Caruana. But we must also remember the good work carried out by the other co-founders and members on that first committee which included J. Balzan as chairman, J. Deguara (a constant figure with Zebbug Rangers), Philip Saliba (later notary and MP) and the undersigned. I was also playing with the team at its first inception and subsequent and appeared as club delegate with the MFA at the very start.

We must also remember the players and committee members during all these years who have rendered generous and excellent service at Zebbug Rangers.
