ŻfinMalta offers two summer workshops with guest artists
Specialised performance sessions being held with dance masters in Valletta
Performance training with Jorge Crecis
ŻfinMalta National Dance Company will host a five-day Performance Presence Intensive from tomorrow, June 30 to July 4, led by internationally recognised choreographer and performance coach Jorge Crecis.
The training will be held daily from 2.30pm to 5.30pm at the company’s studios in Valletta and is open to professional performers, including dancers, athletes and stage artists.
This specialised programme focuses on cultivating “performance presence” – a state of heightened focus, energy regulation and embodied expression.
The training draws on Crecis’s “FULLNESS Performance Presence” methodology, developed over more than two decades through research that combines neurophysiology, sports science, acting techniques and contemporary dance practices.
Jorge CrecisThe sessions are designed to be applicable both in rehearsal and live performance settings, with an emphasis on individual and group exploration.
Participants can expect to engage in physical and mental training that enhances their expressive capabilities, builds endurance, and improves attention control. The tools presented are intended to be transferable to a wide range of professional performance contexts.
The full intensive is priced at €200, with a day drop-in option available for €55. Bookings are currently open through ŻfinMalta’s official channels.
Crecis holds a degree in Sport Sciences, a master’s in elite athletes coaching, and a PhD from Goldsmiths, University of London. A former professional dancer, he has taught and lectured at dance institutions and universities around the world.
His choreographic commissions include works for Birmingham Royal Ballet, Acosta Danza, and numerous international companies. He is also the author of Designing Presence: Entering Towards Vivencia and is featured in the reference work Fifty Contemporary Choreographers.
Crecis is no stranger to local audiences. His high-energy work Tnax premiered at the Malta International Arts Festival in 2019 and was later reprised in ŻfinMalta’s ŻfinDays programme the same year.
In addition to the afternoon intensive, professionals have the opportunity to join ŻfinMalta’s morning company warm-ups, which will also be led by Crecis during his time in Malta. These drop-in classes are available at €10 per session or €35 for a five-class package.
Voguing workshop with UK dancer Faye Stoeser
ŻfinMalta will present a two-hour Voguing Workshop led by UK-based dancer and choreographer Faye Stoeser on July 18, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm at ŻfinMalta Studios in Valletta.
The workshop is open to dance practitioners aged 16 and above and is priced at €30. Registration is currently open through ŻfinMalta’s official channels.
This specialised session will focus on New Way Voguing, a stylised subgenre of voguing known for its precision, angular movements, and flexibility.
Participants will explore the foundations of the style through structured movement phrases and improvisational tasks, while also gaining insight into the history and cultural significance of voguing and ballroom culture.
The workshop is designed not only to teach technical elements but also to highlight self-expression, individuality and creativity, all of which are central to the voguing tradition. Stoeser’s approach blends elements from contemporary dance and underground club styles, creating a dynamic and inclusive learning environment.
Stoeser brings over 15 years of teaching experience to the studio, having worked with prestigious institutions such as Rambert Company, Rambert School, Italia Conti and the Brit School.
Faye StoeserHer teaching background spans all ages and levels of experience, from youth training programmes to professional company classes.
She is also an active rehearsal director, with credits including Richard Chappell Dance, Saul Nash, and Hannah Ekholm.
Stoeser’s career spans the contemporary dance, commercial, and battle dance sectors.
Her choreographic work and performance style are deeply influenced by her diverse training, rooted in contemporary technique while incorporating the aesthetics and energy of club dance.
In addition to the voguing workshop, professional dancers aged 18 and over are invited to attend ŻfinMalta’s morning company open classes led by Stoeser from July 14-18.
These drop-in contemporary dance sessions, priced at €10 per class or €35 for a five-class package, will draw further inspiration from underground club styles and offer participants the chance to train alongside ŻfinMalta company dancers.
