TVM's youth programme Zmeraldi visited the wonderful city of Strasbourg, right in the heart of Europe, earlier this month together with a group of 30 students from Sir Mikelang Refalo Centre for Further Studies, Victoria.

The students had the opportunity to visit and address the European Parliament, as part of the Euroscola event, organised regularly by the European Parliament.

The group's visit coincided with the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe.

This was a great opportunity for the students, who were able to discuss important topics, such as the European Constitution, and peace and stability in the region, together with youths from other EU member states as well as a group from Lebanon (which has not yet fully recovered from its 15-year civil war), and Hiroshima, Japan, where tens of thousands died when the atomic bomb was dropped on the city, bringing World War II to an end.

This trip was made possible with the help of the European Parliament's Information Office in Malta.

Besides introducing this fascinating city of Strasbourg to televiewers, Zmeraldi will bring home feelings and thoughts of both students and teachers during their three-day stay, and comments by representatives of this largest democratic institution in Europe.

Zmeraldi will broadcast the second of a two-part exclusive series from Strasbourg tomorrow with a repeat on Saturday on TVM. The programme will also be repeated on Education Channel 22 on Tuesday.

Zmeraldi, presented by Katya, Paul and Ylenia, is a Citadel Video Communications production.
