Zucchero and Gipsy Kings to headline Għaxaq Music Festival
Popular festival to be held on July 17 and 18
Legendary Italian rock star Zucchero and the Gipsy Kings and will headline the Għaxaq Music Festival 2025 next month.
The annual festival will take place in the heart of Għaxaq on July 17 and 18.
Italian blues-rock singer Zucchero will return to Malta as part of his Overdose D’Amore World Tour. He will perform on the first night of the festival.
With a career spanning over four decades, Zucchero is one of Italy’s best-selling and most internationally recognised musicians, having sold more than 60 million records worldwide. Fans can expect classics such as Senza una donna, Baila (Sexy Thing), and Diamante.
Before Zucchero takes the stage, several local acts will kick off the night. These include singer-songwriter Chess Galea, returning to Malta after performing with The Australian Pink Floyd Show, and guitarist-producer Peter Borg. Popular DJs Pierre Cordina and DJ Mykill will also perform.
The Gipsy Kings by Diego Baliardo.On July 18, Grammy Award-winning group Gipsy Kings by Diego Baliardo will bring their Back to the Origins tour to Malta. Known for their unique fusion of flamenco, salsa and pop, the band will perform global hits such as Bamboléo, Volare, and Djobi Djoba.
Opening the second night is Kurt Calleja and Friends, a showcase led by the Eurovision singer and featuring fellow Eurovision representative Chiara, rapper Owen Leuellen, singer Brooke and vocalist Kristen Graham. Maltese music veteran Alex Grech will warm up the evening, while DJ Sue will close the festival.
Tickets are available online at www.showshappening.com. Children under 12 can attend for free when accompanied by an adult, except for the seated area, where a ticket must be purchased for the seat.
A portion of ticket proceeds will be donated to the Embrace Diversity Organisation, which supports children and youths with disabilities. Almost €200,000 has been donated to charitable causes over the years.
Now in its 26th edition, the Għaxaq Music Festival has hosted numerous international acts, including Ronan Keating, Julian Marley, Boney M, The Wailers, and UB40.
