Over 100,000 cruise passengers are expected in Malta next year through a fly-and-cruise programme.

Another 10,000 passengers were expected on five cruise liners visiting Malta asa port of call, Tourism Minister Edward Zammit Lewis announced this morning during the launch of the new P&O Oceana cruise-liner itinerary.

Addressing the press, Dr Zammit Lewis said Malta’s cruise sector had evolved from one which was exclusively a port of call to one which also included home-porting.

According to recent figures published by the National Statistics Office, the minister said, Malta registered some 240,000 cruise passengers during the first half of the year, an increase of 6.2 per cent over last year.

“We are proud to be the homeport of choice for P&O Oceana throughout seasons 2017 and 2018. Malta is a vibrant destination and this is reflected in the port of Valletta and all the ongoing activities around the Grand Harbour region and the capital city,” Dr Zammit Lewis said.
