Premier League newcomers Marsaxlokk are hoping to complete the signing of former Naxxar Lions midfielder Benneth Njoku in the coming days. The Nigerian midfielder, who is on the books of Gozo club SK Victoria Wanderers, is reportedly keen on a move to Marsaxlokk after spending last season on loan at Xewkija Tigers.
Sources close to Marsaxlokk told The Times that the club is very close to agreeing a deal for Njoku's services. If Njoku's move materialises, he will become Marsaxlokk's second overseas player for the coming season. Marsaxlokk have already secured the signature of a Czech midfielder but they have yet to offer a contract to 20-year-old Nigerian striker Ganny Agally. Agally has been training with them for the past two weeks.
The Division One champions have been busy scouring the transfer market to bolster their squad for their first experience in the top flight. A clutch of experienced players, including former Malta international Richard Buhagiar, Roger Walker and Reggie Cini, are among Marsaxlokk's close-season signings.
Defender Justin Tellus was also due to sign a one-year contract with Marsaxlokk yesterday after he agreed to join them on loan from Birkirkara.
Meanwhile, Mosta FC, the other Premier League newcomers, have decided to part company with their coach Bobby Gyorev. The Bulgarian mentor has been replaced by Vince Carbonaro.
