Joshua Anastasi is the winner of the Island Radio Model Car Club (IRMCC) annual Easter Cup at the Pembroke track.
The competition involved a three-race series, each on a different circuit. The 13 drivers, irrespective of grade, figured in the same Open class, according to International Touring Car regulations. This format allowed newcomers to test their skills against their more experienced rivals.
The first race was held on the short circuit. National champion Anastasi led from start to finish, winning in record time with his John Bull Racing TC3. Multiple Internal Combustion (petrol engined cars) champion Gustav Cuschieri drove his Barracuda to second place. Easter Cup 2003 winner Karl Fenech was third with his TC3.
Adrian Farrugia, who was also driving a TC3, was the fastest in the Stock motor drivers.
The second race took place on a faster circuit but the change did not seem to make any difference for Anastasi. He dashed home to his second win of the day, also breaking the race and lap record in the process.
The last race in the Easter Cup is always run on a high speed oval. Fenech got off to a great start and led into the first corner but a momentary glitch allowed Anastasi to snatch the lead. He went on to finish the day with three wins from three starts.
In the overall standings, Anastasi was followed by Adrian Farrugia and Mario Farrugia. Bruce Debattista, Thomas Cremona and Stanley Cassar, all driving Yokomo cars, claimed the next three places respectively.
Adrian Farrugia won the award for best-placed competitor and the Concours d'Elegance award for his Associated TC3.
