The final day of the January transfer window saw two significant transfers completed as Richard Buhagiar left Marsaxlokk to join Ghajnsielem in Gozo and Nigerian Anthony Evi Parker signed for Premier League club Floriana.
Buhagiar, 32, looked set to see out the rest of the season with Marsaxlokk after he had solved his differences with the club but Ghajnsielem's last-ditch overtures persuaded him to accept their offer to sign on loan till May.
At Ghajnsielem, who are facing strong competition from Xewkija Tigers for the Division One title, Buhagiar will link up with a clutch of former Premier League players, including ex-Marsaxlokk team-mates David Carabott and Daniel Bogdanovic, Edoardo Do Nascimento and Graham Bencini, who began this season with Floriana, and Daniel Dengaky, formerly of Hamrun Spartans.
"Ghajnsielem have been showing an interest in me for several weeks and I'm delighted to join them," Buhagiar said.
"I'm looking forward to helping the team achieve their ambition."
Whereas Buhagiar has opted to quit Premier League football, Evi Parker, 19, is making a return.
He turned out for Balzan Youths in the Premier League last season but was unable to help his side avoid relegation.
At the start of this season, Evi Parker returned to Division One club Marsa but yesterday the latter agreed to transfer their striker to Floriana.
Evi Parker played his last match for Marsa on Sunday, scoring his side's goal in a 2-1 defeat to rivals Hamrun Spartans in a top-of-the-table clash.
A late switch was that of Msida's Fabio Cauchi. Yesterday, he joined Second Division strugglers Sta Venera until the end of the season.
