The British government has unveiled its official logo for its six-month EU presidency beginning this July.

The design features a flock of flying swans in V-formation, with text in yellow reading UK Presidency Of The EU 2005.

From July to December the swans will be closely identified with the UK's presidency and will feature on bill boards, on the official presidency website, on stationery and even on umbrellas.

"This identity programme elegantly marks Britain's leadership of the EU while also symbolising European nations working together effectively for a better future", the UK Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, Patricia Hewitt said during the inauguration of the logo.

The UK government will be hoping that Britain's high profile position as holder of the EU presidency will boost support among the British public for a yes vote on the EU Constitution. A referendum on the treaty is expected in 2006, following the conclusion of the UK presidency.
