Andriy Shevchenko marked his return from injury by scoring Milan's second goal in a 2-0 victory over Inter in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final last night.
The European Footballer of the Year, who last played on February 19, headed Andrea Pirlo's free-kick from deep on the right inside the far post 16 minutes from time.
It was almost a carbon copy of Jaap Stam's opener in first half injury time, the Dutch defender also glancing a Pirlo free kick from the right inside the far post.
Inter will feel the result was rough justice after they forced Milan's Brazilian keeper Dida into three saves before Stam scored with his team's first effort on goal.
But Carlo Ancelotti's Milan looked to have the edge over Inter in every department and were comfortably in charge throughout the second half - although they suffered a late scare when Inter's Greek substitute Giorgos Karagounis hit the post from a nearly impossible angle.
Milan's Gennaro Gattuso was booked in the first half and will be suspended for the second leg on Tuesday.
Chelsea's Frank Lampard struck twice in the second half as his team beat Bayern Munich 4-2 in the other quarter-final at Stamford Bridge.
England midfielder Lampard scored two superbly-taken goals in between strikes by Joe Cole and Didier Drogba to give Chelsea a two-goal lead to take to Munich for Tuesday's second leg.
Bayern's second goal was a controversial penalty given by Dutch referee Rene Temmink in the third minute of stoppage time and converted by Michael Ballack, who had fallen in the area after very little contact.
Chelsea had made the perfect start after four minutes when Cole's shot from 25 metres struck Bayern defender Lucio and completely wrong-footed keeper Oliver Kahn to put them in front.
Bayern equalised seven minutes after the break when halftime substitute Bastian Schweinsteiger fired a right-foot shot past goalkeeper Petr Cech from six metres.
Chelsea's response was swift, though, as Lampard's sweetly struck shot from just outside the area flew past Kahn on the hour after he was set up by a deft Drogba header.
Goal of the night
Lampard then scored the goal of the night when he controlled a cross from Claude Makelele on his chest, swivelled and fired home once again with his left foot from 10 metres.
Drogba was rewarded for his set-up play as he rifled the ball into the net from close range to put Chelsea in complete command until Ballack's late penalty gave the Germans' hope.
