The Ninu Cremona Lyceum Complex of Victoria, Gozo, organised a series of events to celebrate John Paul II's life and passing away.

Members of the teaching staff set up an exhibition featuring the highlights of Karol Wojtyla's life and Papacy.

In the main school foyer, a Pope's memorial was set up. This consisted of a life-size portrait of John Paul II, the traditional Paschal candle, flowers and the Vatican flag at half-mast.

The exhibition and the memorial set the right reflective mood and promoted discussion about the Pontiff's charisma and his ability to communicate with one and all.

On April 8, the day of the Pope's funeral, the school community joined the rest of the world by celebrating Mass for the repose of his soul.

The Mass was led by the school's spiritual director, Fr Joe Cini, who had concelebrated Mass with His Holiness at Ta' Pinu National Shrine in 1990.

The service was animated by Mr Bernard Mercieca, a staff member, who had also animated that same Mass. Both the chalice and the pyx used in this service had been used by Pope John Paul II during his pastoral visit to Gozo.

As a backdrop, the school set up a big screen on which was projected the image of the Pontiff's coffin. During the service, the Latin version of Our Father, recorded by His Holiness, was played. After the Mass the students and staff watched the funeral service on the big screen.

Finally this special week was brought to an end with the signing of the condolence book which will be forwarded to the Vatican's Camerlengo, Cardinal Eduardo Martinez Somalo.
