The MFA's preparations for the biennial International Football Tournament have received a boost in the shape of a dual sponsorship deal.
Coca-Cola and Multiplus were yesterday unveiled as co-sponsors of this year's tournament which will see the participation of Moldova, Georgia, Libya and hosts Malta.
The Coca-Cola/Multiplus International Football Tournament will be held between February 25 and March 1.
There will be six matches spread over six days with the Maltese national team scheduled to appear in the second game on each of the three matchdays.
Dr Mifsud said that Georgia, who recently installed German Klaus Toppmoeller as their national coach, and Moldova, had confirmed their participation in the tournament regardless of whether the qualifying draw for Euro 2008 pitted them against any of the other participants. As it turned out, Malta and Moldova will cross swords in Group C whereas Georgia will play Malta at U-21 level.
Martin Agius, Sales and Marketing Director at General Soft Drinks, said their sponsorship for this year's tournament is the first step in an extensive collaboration agreement with the Malta FA leading up to the World Cup in Germany between June 9 and July 9.
"Coca-Cola are honoured to be associated with local football thanks to a new agreement which marks the renewal of our commitment towards the game," Agius said.
Multiplus representative Anton Attard said their support of the International Tournament reflects the company's drive to promote football.
