Qormi sealed their promotion to the First Division after they beat Gozo FC by three clear goals to win the Division Two title on Monday.

It was Gozo FC who had their first attempt at goal, Elton Vella's shot saved by Camilleri. At the other end, goalkeeper Jonathan Xuereb did well to keep out efforts by Johan Zammit and Carmel Formosa.

Qormi took the lead on 41 minutes when Formosa served Zammit who scored with a fine volley.

Ten minutes after the restart, the Gozitans should have drawn level but Jason Portelli missed a sitter.

Qormi doubled their advantage on 84 minutes when Zammit hit the ball home from a Joseph Chetcuti cross.

Kenneth Mercieca was unlucky not to pull one back for Gozo when his lob bounced off the crossbar.

Qormi sealed the points in time added on with an Edward Azzopardi goal. At the final whistle, there were great celebrations by the Qormi supporters. They cheered their team who made sure of the championship.

Gudja United 3
Attard 2

Gudja United picked three precious points in their bid to stave the drop after they edged direct relegation rivals Attard. Gudja now need to beat bottom side Gharghur to retain their status in Division Two.

Early on, Elton Bugeja and Elvin Gauci were close for Gudja but it was Attard who scored first on 15 minutes through a Hashem Rhababh goal.

Minutes later, Gudja were close to an equaliser but efforts from Aldrin Muscat and Chris Grech were cleared on the Attard goal-line.

Gudja deservedly drew level just before the interval when Muscat tapped home Grech's cross.

Gudja were the better team after the break and went 2-1 up on 56 minutes when Grech headed the ball in from a Muscat cross.

On 69 minutes Gudja were awarded a penalty for a handling infringement in the Attard area and Muscat converted to make it 3-1.

Gzira United 0
Dingli Swallows 1

A goal by substitute Roderick Farrugia five minutes from time gave Dingli Swallows the three points in a match which Gzira United badly needed to win to stay away from the red zone.

The Maroons played the better football during the first period and early on went close through Nico Corito and Carlo Leonardi. On 32 minutes, an effort by Matthew Cocks just missed the target and on 41 minutes Leonardi's header was cleared off the line by Bruce Genovese.

Gzira remained the better team throughout the second half and in the 61st minute they wasted an incredible goal opportunity through Clayton Caruana. He shot wide with an open goal at his mercy.

In a counter-break, five minutes from time, Dingli clinched the winner when Farrugia hit home following good work by Jeremy Agius. There were protests by Gzira and Aaron Pendry was sent off.

Mellieha 0
Zebbug Rangers 1

Zebbug Rangers put their minds at rest from relegation worries after defeating Mellieha who had a disappointing performance and threw away their promotion chances.

Rangers dictated the run of play for most of the opening half and after going close through Errol Cachia, they took the lead in the 22nd minute through Mark Ciantar.

Zebbug held the initiative. Ciantar and Cachia wasted their chances in front of goal and at the other end, Mellieha striker Ibrahim Tarik shot at goal from close-range with the Rangers' defence clearing with difficulty.

Mellieha reacted after the change of ends but were rather poor in their conclusions at goal. Wayne Borg St John and Reuben Vella tried their luck but with scant reward.

Six minutes from time, Zebbug were reduced to ten players when Neil Francalanza was sent off following an incident with an opponent.

Melita 0
Vittoriosa Stars 2

Vittoriosa surged forward in attack from the word go and after a Lawrence Mizzi free-kick came off the upright, they broke the deadlock on nine minutes when Robert Adami hit home with an excellent volley.

Vittoriosa were then twice denied by Michael Carter off shots by Mizzi and Adami.

In a rare attack Melita went close through Edward Herrera's effort which was saved by Elvin Attard.

Seven minutes after the restart, Vittoriosa sealed the issue with their second goal scored by Mizzi following a perfect pass from Jeffrey Zammit.

Carter made a fine save to deny Clint Cope with Melita having shots by Julian Galea and Michael Martin missing the targets. Five minutes from time, the Amateurs were unlucky when Martin's close-range effort hit the upright.

Balzan Youths 7
Gharghur 0

This was an easy victory for Balzan Youths against relegated Gharghur. The Youths practically made sure of the points in the opening half as they were already leading 3-0. Striker Antoine Sacco scored five times for the winners.

Balzan took the lead early on when Alistair Camilleri headed in from a Jerryton Agius cross. In the 25th minute Sacco made it 2-0 and Camilleri scored again on the half hour after a Sacco shot was stopped by the upright.

On 40 minutes, Balzan keeper Sciberras made his first save to hold out a Laoini shot from a corner.

The second period was a mere formality with Sacco making it 4-0 after only four minutes. Gharghur keeper Ciantar did well to hold out shots from Ismael Zammit and Agius but in the 67th minute Sacco notched a hat-trick and his 15th of the season.

Balzan were awarded a penalty in the 81st minute after Robert Southward handled the ball on the goal line to stop Sacco's shot. Southward was sent off and Sacco converted from the spot to make it 6-0.
