In this exciting movie, based on a sci-fi short story by Lewis Padgett, two children discover a mysterious box containing some strange devices which they think are toys.

But when playing with these "toys," their intelligence levels get higher and higher. Their teacher tells their parents that they appear to have become geniuses. And their parents realise something extraordinary is happening. Emma tells her mother that one of the toys, a shabby stuffed toy rabbit named Mimzy teaches her things.

When a blackout shuts down the city the government traces the source of the power surge to Emma's family's house where things quickly spin wildly out of their control. The children are focused on the strange objects and Mimzy. These seem to have an important mission to fulfill. Then Emma announces that Mimzy contains a most serious message from the future and a scientific scan shows that the toy rabbit is part extremely high level electronic and part organic! Everyone realises that they are involved in something incredible... but what exactly?
