Unlike here in Malta, many schools do not insist that students wear a complete school uniform and pupils are stretching the rules for and against the custom.
Boys at a school in New Zealand are swapping their sensible shoes for a really odd fashion trend, they’re wearing slippers!
They have switched to the more comfy footwear and so many of them are breaking the rules that it has become almost impossible to tell them off.
One teacher told one of the country’s newspapers that the school can’t send up to 20 children home every day.
The American rap artist Snoop Dogg was spotted wearing slippers wherever he went and this is how the trend supposed to have started. He wore a pair to give a magazine interview, which prompted the boys to make this unexpected change to their uniforms.
Some of the boys’ excuses for their strange choice of footwear is that their shoes are broken or that they have been left in their parents’ car.
Meanwhile, in a school in Essex, England, primary school children are requesting ties to make their uniform more like a proper uniform.
The school has never had a tie as part of its uniform, which is made up of green sweatshirts, yellow or white polo shirts and grey or black trousers, because there were concerns that children would pull each other’s ties or that the ties would get lost.
Some teachers did not like the idea, but then dozens of pupils arrived for lessons wearing green and yellow striped ties. After talking to the children, the school’s teachers and governors agreed to bring in ties for those who wanted them. Now more than half the 174 pupils wear ties.
The school council agrees they look smart and help the children get ready for senior school. The students say wearing ties makes them feel really smart and even helps them concentrate!
Now some of the children are thinking about getting blazers too.
