CIANTAR. On April 7, at St Luke's Hospital, JOSEPHINE of Żebbuġ, former primary school teacher at San Ġorġ, Qormi, aged 84, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her nephews, nieces and their families, other relatives and friends.
The funeral leaves St Luke's Hospital today at 2 p.m. for St Philip's Parish Church where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2.30 p.m., followed by interment in the family grave at Qalb ta' Ġesu Cemetery, Żebbug. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be appreciated. Lord grant her eternal rest.

SCICLUNA. 22 years have passed since the servant of God, Fr THOMAS SCICLUNA, OFM, went to meet the Risen Lord, 9.4.'86. Always remembered by the Franciscan Fathers, his family, and especially the Camilleri family. Masses for the repose of his soul are being said in various churches.

Stella Maris annual concert

Latin jazz at the Manoel

A Latin jazz concert by the ensemble Vida Pura, made up of Grammy Award winning artists, will be held at the Manoel Theatre next week.

The ensemble, which has toured in Columbia, China and Germany, brings together world renowned musicians Sebastian Schunke on piano, vocalist Olvido, Lukmil Perez on drums, Felepe Cabrera on bass and El Indio on trumpet.

These artists fuse the intense energy of their home cultures to create music which merges the boundaries of classical music and Latin rhythms.

The concert will be held on April 16 at 8 p.m., in collaboration with the German Embassy in Malta.

Propertyline International said it is now receiving applications for the second Training Academy, led by the company's managing director, Trafford Busuttil.

This extensive training course on How To Be An Estate Agent is open to the public and is being offered free of charge.

It is spread over two months, starting on April 15, twice weekly between 6.30 and 8.30 p.m.

Healthy living courses

The Health Promotion Unit at the Gozo General Hospital is for the second consecutive year offering courses on healthier lifestyles among the Gozitan public.

These courses, which include a weight reduction course, a smoking cessation course as well as a healthy cooking course, last year were attended by 855 individuals.

This year, the unit will also be offering a varied fitness programme which is to include classes in Hi-Lo Aerobics, Dance Aerobics, Tonification, Power Yoga and Pilates.

The unit falls under the Customer Services Department, Ministry for Gozo and is open from Monday to Friday from 7.30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Those interested are asked to call on 2210 6350 for more information.

Prayers for priestly vocations

The Catholic Church throughout the world is marking April 13, next Sunday, as the annual day for special prayers for priestly and religious vocations.

The Archbishop's Seminary and the Centre for Vocations offer every help to those that are seriously considering such a way of life.

This is done through meetings conducted every month in most parishes around the island, live-ins at the Seminary and also personal meetings. For this day, the Seminary has this year published a flyer that can also function as a mode of assistance.

EuroMed seminar

The 24th Euro-Mediterranean Information and Training Seminar will take place in Malta between Friday and Monday.

The four days of proceedings will focus on recent developments in the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership, particularly the progress registered in the implementation of the Euro-Mediterranean Five Year work programme and developments that have taken place during the Slovenian presidency of the European Union during the first half of 2008.

The keynote address at the opening of the seminar will be delivered by Tonio Borg, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Cruise winner

Crystal Falzon will be enjoying a week-long cruise around the Mediterranean aboard the luxury five-star cruise liner Norwiegan Gem with a friend, after she won a competition in aid of the charities on Xfm's Big Breakfast programme with Carlo Borg Bonaci. Proceeds from all SMS entries to this competition went directly to the Eden Foundation.

Cake sale

The feast commission will be holding a cake sale in aid of the feast of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart. It will be held on the parvis of the church of Sacro Cuor in Sliema on Saturday and Sunday. Home baked cakes and confectionery items will be on sale.

Investments seminar

The Malta Institute of Financial Services and the Malta Financial Services Authority are jointly organising a training seminar on Alternative Investments with the participation of four experienced international speakers in the hedge fund business.

The speakers are Matthew Jones from the Alternative Management Association, UK; Gregg Beechey from SJ Berwin Solicitors, UK; Dermot Butler from Custom House Fund Administration, Ireland; and Gus Black from Dechert Solicitors, UK.

The aim of the seminar is to give participants an overview of alternative investments and a better understanding of hedge funds, private equity funds and other types of funds.

The seminar will be held at the MFSA Conference Hall in Notabile Road, Attard on April 14 and participation costs €140 (Lm60.10).

Sports Marathon raises funds

Qormi's Pastoral and Liturgical Youth Group managed to raise €2,400 (Lm1,030.32) during a 28-hour sports marathon.

The funds will go towards works at the St Sebastian parish hall. The group wants to equip the hall with a games room and buy doors and windows for four rooms.

During the marathon, which was held for the third time, young people played volleyball, handball, indoor football, table tennis, chess and board games. There were also workshops for youths and adults.
