An exhibition of paintings in watercolours by the renowned artist George Large is to be held at the Malta Hilton from today until November 14.

The exhibition has been arranged by an organising committee led by Alaine and Peter Apap Bologna, in aid of the Salesians of Don Bosco and St Patrick's School for boys with difficulties. Catherine Gonzi will open the exhibition and Nicholas de Piro will talk about the artist and the paintings.

Mr Large has been painting Malta for more than 20 years and first exhibited here at the National Museum of Fine Art in 1984. He had one-man shows at Melitensia Art Gallery in 1995, 1998 and 2004, while his last exhibiiton in Malta took place at the Hilton in 2006, also in aid of the Salesian's of St Patrick's. His works hang in the best collections in Malta, and his paintings are always in demand.

He and his wife Pamela, a gifted writer and author of The Food Of The Knights Of Malta, spend several months of the year on the island, where they have a home in Safi. Their love for Malta and the Maltese is evidenced by the colour and vigour of the paintings, which mostly depict men at work.

Their brochures may be obtained by an e-mail request to bologna@onvol.net, from Fr Charles Cini at St Patrick's, or at the exhibition.
