Children attending Sliema Primary school brought their pets to school to celebrate Animal Awareness Day on October 5.

The school yard was filled with dogs, cats, turtles, rabbits, birds, guinea pigs and fish. Fr Joseph Farrugia, parish priest of St Gregory's church, was present to bless the animals. He reminded the pupils of St Francis, who considered all animals as friends and emphasised the importance of taking care of the environment.

SPCA Educational Representative Rita Brincat also attended, together with her own pet dog Kiki, and spoke to the children about the needs of various animals.

The school's head teacher, Valerie Sciberras, then invited all the children and their parents to parade around the yard with their pets.
