Malta international Andrè Schembri is likely to leave the Austrian Division One league this month as he's attracting interest from a host of clubs, a report in the UK said yesterday.

Schembri joined SK Austria Kaernten last summer after a spell in the German regional league. However, the club from Klagenfurt have fallen on hard times lately, having won only once in 19 matches. SK Austria Kaernten are bottom of the table in the Austrian top league.

A skysports.com report says clubs from England, Italy, Spain, Germany and Greece have shown interest in signing Schembri for the rest of the season. The former Hibs and Marsaxlokk forward has also had training sessions with Ferencvaros, the crack Hungarian team.

Schembri, 23, has left a good impression in Kaernten but the club are looking to cash in on some of their top players to ease their financial problems.

"Schembri is believed to be keen on playing at a higher level," the report said, "and he is waiting to see what offers come his way.

"Ferencvaros are interested in his signature and so are Italian Serie B side Ascoli who could lure Schembri away from Austria.

"Schembri was linked with Aston Villa during his early days and now several Championship and League One sides are monitoring his progress."

The championship in Austria resumes on the second weekend of February.

Malta friendly

It was announced on Thursday that Malta will play a friendly match against Finland on March 3 at the National Stadium. Finland will hold a training camp here around the date of the friendly.

The national team has not been involved in an international match since their 4-1 defeat to Bulgaria in a friendly match at the Hibs Stadium on November 18.
