Julianne Moore has revealed she always takes her children with her if she has to travel to make a film on location.

The 49-year-old star of The Kids Are Alright – who lives in New York with son Caleb, 12, daughter Liv, eight, and second husband, director Bart Freundlich – revealed she always puts her family life before work, and tells other actors to do the same.

Mrs Moore said: “It’s a huge consideration. When they were little, we went everywhere, it was very easy. I always tell actors and actresses I know with young kids, ‘Before they’re in school, take them everywhere, don’t worry about it’.

“Now they’re in school, I try to do my work in New York City or in the summer. The children Are All Right was in the summertime, so all of us, including the dog, went to LA.”

In The Kids Are All Right, Mrs Moore plays Jules, one half of a lesbian couple. Annette Bening plays her successful doctor partner Nic, whose children track down their sperm donor father, played by Mark Ruffalo, only for Jules to fall for him.

She admits that working with Mark before on 2008 thriller Blindness helped when it came to filming the pair’s sex scenes.

She said: “Mark and I had just three days to do our little storyline, so it certainly helped that we had a history together and an ease with each other.”
