Fr Emmanuel Agius, professor of moral philosophy and moral theology, has been re-appointed on the prestigious European Group on Ethics in Science and New Technologies for the next five years.
Appointments to this group are made directly by European Commission president José Manuel Barroso and members are nominated in their personal capacity following a call for applications.
Rev. Prof. Agius was chosen in spite of tough competition from more than 150 applicants. He was first appointed to the group in 2005.

Its job is to examine ethical questions stemming from science and new technologies and to issue opinions to the European Commission in connection with the preparation and implementation of Community legislation or policies.
Its members represent a broad range of professional competences in different disciples such as biology and genetics, medicine, pharmacology, agricultural sciences, ICT, law, ethics, philosophy and theology.
