The reliquary containing part of the head of the martyr St Sebastian is being brought to Qormi from the treasury of the Vatican’s St Peter’s Basilica.

Throughout the centuries, St Sebastian relics were in demand because they were thought to have miraculous powers for the healing of the sick, a spokesman for the Qormi parish said.

The reliquary arrives in Qormi at 5 p.m. today and will be carried processionally to the old parish church, where solemn translation will be at 6.30 p.m. tomorrow.

On Sunday, the reliquary will feature in the main procession with the titular statue of St Sebastian.
