This valley holds the largest of the Maltese willow formations, typified by the white willow (żafżafa kbira) and the Mediterranean willow (żafżafa żgħira). The area also includes new trees, originating from fallen branches of the parent willow trees, as well as large almond trees (lewż), a few native white poplar trees (luq) as well as individual pecan nut trees (ġewż tal-pekan), originally planted in the area.
Mepa declared this site as a Tree Protected Area on May 24, in accordance with the provisions of the Trees and Woodlands Protection Regulations (2011) as per Government Notice number 473/11.
