An investigation has been launched after two puppies were found dumped in a bin bag in woodland.

One of the Staffordshire bull terrier-cross puppies had to be put down after it was found to have such bad eye ulcers it had been blinded, the RSPCA said.

The surviving male puppy, which has been named Piglet, is being treated for an abscess on his back leg. He was also found to have chewed ear tips, a minor umbilical hernia and some fur loss, possibly as a result of mange.

The RSPCA was alerted after a member of public discovered the two four-week-old puppies in a bag in an area known as Bluebell Woods, close to Middle Winterslow, near Salisbury in Wiltshire. (PA)
