A musical based on Lewis Carroll’s surreal story Alice in Wonderland will be staged by Maleth theatre group at the Manoel Theatre, Valletta, next weekend.

Playing Alice has its pressures as this timeless fantasy has captured the hearts of the young and old

The family show features catchy tunes, beautiful lyrics, a cast of seasoned actors and a chorus of dancers and singers.

Leave Room For Dreams opens the musical as Dodgson sets the scene with a short monologue and Alice begs him to tell her a story. Positioned on a step ladder, Dodgson takes photographs of Alice Liddell as he takes her on this surreal and colourful journey.

Larissa Bonaci, who stars in the leading role, says this is a dream part for any actress. She adds that “to be performing Alice in Wonderland at the Manoel Theatre gives this a whole experience a sense of excellence”.

“Playing Alice, this witty and outspoken character, has its pressures as this timeless fantasy has captured the hearts of the young and old who I’m sure will want to relive this magical evening.”

The show is under the artistic direction of Ray Mamo. Choreography is by Janice de Giovanni and Abigail Brown is vocal coach.

The orchestra is under the direction of David Sammut.

The cast includes Kris Spiteri, Neville Refalo, Narcy Calamatta, Christine Briffa, Kate de Cesare, Marvic Cordina, Jane Pillow, Renato Dimech, Tiziana Calleja, Erin Stewart Tanti and Sean Briffa.
