From an early age, Jessica Muscat adored anything related to show-business: as a child, one her biggest pleasures involved watching Italian celebrity Heather Parisi strut her stuff on television. Today, she lists Lady Gaga as one of her favourite singers: hmmm, we wonder where her inspiration for her entry, called Dance Romance, came from!
“I wrote the lyrics myself, while the music was composed by Philip Vella. I’d describe the song as a modern, contemporary-pop piece with a catchy tune that everyone can sing along to.”
Asked why she believes she deserves to win, Jessica cheekily replies that apart from the good package she’s presenting with regards to voice, choreography and appearance (go on boys, cheer her on, you know you want to) the song boasts a powerful production, both lyrically and musically. Confidence, apparently, is not an issue with this singer and we’re sure this quality will serve her in good stead on stage!
“The message behind the song is one of romance, a love-story that ignites swiftly between a girl and a guy at a club, while they’re dancing away to the beat. The night highlights the wish of the girl that this love will last forever.”
At the moment Jessica is busy perfecting the last details of her performance.
“I want the whole thing to be as perfect as possible. I’m doing my homework, that’s for sure: rehearsing with my dancers and the backing vocals and, of course, I make sure I don’t miss out on my physical workouts! I’m really looking forward to giving a fabulous performance and I want to enjoy and live every moment of the contest to the full... but I have to admit, I get nervous just thinking about the moment when the jury is ready to give the verdict. That part when the points are being read out... brr.”
Jessica teaches Spanish at Santa Teresa College in St Venera. She usually wraps up a long day at school with a small siesta, which is followed by a brisk dog walk with her pinscher around the outskirts of Mosta. Evenings are dedicated to the preparation of the next day’s lessons and then chilling with some music or maybe a movie until it’s bedtime before alarm goes off again at half past five sharp in the morning.”
