St James Hospital has been accredited the first Shape Centre of Excellence in Europe by the American organisation Shape, the Society for Heart Attack Prevention and Eradication.

Hospital chairman Josie Muscat said the accreditation came as the hospital was investing in a new project aimed to spread more information on heart disease.

St James, he said, was launching the Maltese Heart Attack Prevention Initiative which includes consultation with a cardiologist, blood tests, heart scans, stress ECG and 24-hour blood pressure monitoring.

Health Minister Joseph Cassar said the project should help the people get more information on how heart disease possibilities could be reduced.
