Work on a new waterpolo pitch and a clubhouse in Birzebbuga will start in the second week of October and be concluded within two years, Infrastructure Minister Joe Mizzi and Sports Parliamentary Secretary Stefan Buontempo said this morning.

Addressing a news conference, they said work on a new football ground will start next year.

The 33 by 25 metre waterpolo pitch will be built above the water level and use fresh water. The artificial turf football ground will include dressing rooms.

They will be part of a number of projects in Birzebbuga, to cost more than €3 million. Mr Mizzi said that plans were also being prepared for the embellishment of the promenade at Qajjenza.

The projects, Mr Mizzi and Dr Buontempo said, had been promised by the previous administration but did not materialise.
