The planning authority will draw up a development brief for Marsaxlokk with an “emphasis on tourism” to regenerate the area. It called on the public and organisations to send in their feedback and suggestions.
Mepa said it had been instructed by the Government to draw up an environment and development brief for the Marsaxlokk inner harbour area.
The objective of the document “is to set development parameters with an emphasis on tourism for the regeneration of the area which seek to complement, capitalise on and enhance its environmental value”.
Representations can be sent to the Director of Planning, Inner Harbour Area (Marsaxlokk), Forward Planning Unit, PO Box 200, Marsa GPO 01 or via e-mail at inner.harbour@mepa.org.mt. The Marsaxlokk local plan can be viewed at www.mepa.org.mt.
Submissions must be sent by not later than October 4.
The planning authority has also called for suggestions and feedback for a “proposed new, revised use class order” to replace the one published in 1994.
The aim of the proposal, which denotes the use of a building, has to ensure that the range of uses and activities “accurately reflects the impact on the context of that class while remaining wide enough to encompass the changing needs of a diverse economy”.
It has to reflect the socio-economic and environmental changes and facilitate the change of use between different classes.
The proposal can be seen on www.mepa.org.mt/public-consultation. Feedback can be sent to classesorder @mepa.org.mt by October 18.
