A three-day training seminar on Malta’s water scarcity and solutions for water reuse and saving was attended by 21 teachers in Gozo.
The training, which mainly focused on non-conventional water resources, such as rainwater harvesting, grey water and treated wastewater reuse, took place in the Gozo College, in the framework of the Alter Aqua programme in Malta, for the second consecutive year.
The seminar was facilitated by the educational team MEDIES of the Mediterranean Information Office for Environment Culture and Sustainable Development (MIO-ECSDE) and Nature Trust Malta’s Ekoskola programme.
The training served as an initial, in-depth capacity-building for the teachers on how to use the newly-produced educational material on non-conventional water resources developed for the programme.
The educational material includes activities, worksheets and methodologies that can be adapted across the curriculum.
The supporting, hands-on activities include objects, games and activities designed to support the teacher, while the experiential workshops focused on themes such as the water cycle, water monuments and water in the media.
To date, more than 3,200 students have participated in the sessions and 250 teachers have been trained.
