Two of the most famous fairy tales of all time have been mashed up and tangled together to create RapunzelStiltskin, the MADC’s panto currently running at Ta’ Qali’s Malta Fairs and Convention Centre.

It tells the story of the beautiful Rapunzel (Karen Decelis), a sparkling, bubbly girl, who ends up in big trouble because of her mum – the unrestrainable, uncontrollable and slightly unhinged dame (Jean Pierre Busuttil) who has a unique talent for really putting her foot in it.

When the dame tells a lie in order to keep up appearances, the consequences for Rapunzel just keep getting bigger. She ends up imprisoned by an evil witch (Katja Brauneis) who asks the impossible of her.

That is, until Rumplestiltskin (Luke Saydon) turns up and seems able to help – at a price. Rapunzel agrees to his demands, only to see things very differently once she meets her true love. She is in deep trouble and her fairy can’t help either. Disaster and hilarity ensue.

Written by Steve Hili and directed by Steve Casaletto with musical direction by Paul Abela, vocal coaching by Roger Tirazona and choreography by Kristina Schranz, the set design was in the hands of Oscar nominee Peter Howitt.
