The feast of St Blaise (San Blas) was recently celebrated in the locality of San Blas in Nadur. Following band marches by the Mnarja Band, Gozo Bishop Mario Grech, archpriest Mgr Jimmy Xerri and local priests celebrated Mass for residents of the area.

Residents of the Arka Respite Centre were also invited to the occasion and the money collected during the Mass was donated to the centre.

The ceremony of the blessing of throats took place after Mass. It consisted of touching a person’s throat with blessed candles and prayers so that God, through the intercession of St Blaise, may prevent the person from illnesses related to the throat.

Mgr Grech also blessed pets, fruit, vegetables and artwork exhibited nearby. Margaret Magrin, on behalf of the organisers, thanked all who contributed to the feast’s success.
