The following are the top stories in Maltese newspapers today.

Times of Malta says the gas-fired power station, which was originally meant to come on stream a year ago but was delayed, would be completed ahead of schedule and be ready by May. In another story it says Malta could soon have to defend again a crucial concession it won prior to joining the EU in 2004 as Brussels mulls the possibility of doing away with zero rate VAT exemptions.

The Malta Independent says that according to the Home Affairs Ministry the Hungarian embassy in Rome was informed of an alleged rape of a Hungarian woman by a Libyan migrant on February 8.

In-Nazzjon quotes Opposition leader Simon Busuttil saying it was scandalous that the policed had not yet started investigating the Gaffarena scandal.

L-Orizzont says Malta will be getting clean energy from gas as from next summer.
