A successful restaurant had to be removed for Golden Bay to obtain the Blue Flag status. Yet, one look at the photo (above) prompts the question: what’s going on?
A word of advice and environmental authorities please note. When all this mass of stagnant seaweed is carted away, half the truck used for the job will consist of precious golden sand that is removed together with the seaweed. Perhaps some brainbox in the one of the authorities in charge could come up with a brilliant idea on how to get rid of just the seaweed.
In the meantime, to stop the shoreline erosion, just even out the seaweed and cover it with sand. It will act as a buffer to stop the shoreline receding and uncovering rocks.
