The Augustinian Sisters, Servants of Jesus and Mary, have just concluded their six-yearly provincial chapter – a rich experience in unity through diversity – with the election of a new provincial superior and administrative team.
Representatives from America, Australia, Brasil, England, Philippines and Malta came together to pray and to evaluate the situation of their province. The sisters addressed their place in today’s society and discussed the way forward to help people experience the love and mercy of Jesus Christ.
The newly appointed provincial superior is Sr Rachel Frendo, who joined the congregation in 1986 and professed her perpetual vows in 1994. She graduated in 1996 and taught at St Monica School, Gżira for several years before becoming an assistant head in charge of pastoral care. In 1998, she was appointed counsellor of the provincial superior and served in this role for 12 years. She has been responsible for the initial formation of the Augustinian Sisters in Malta for the past 15 years.
Sr Frendo will be assisted in her new post by Sr Miriam Grech, Sr Grace Debattista, Sr Marica Briffa, Sr Marvic Saliba, Sr Sandra Gauci and Sr Atanasia Buhagiar, outgoing provincial superior who, for the past three years, has shown paramount dedication and service in leading the province.
