Popular TV presenter Stephanie Spiteri this morning dismissed rumours that she would be standing as a Nationalist Party candidate in the general election.

"Although I appreciate and thank you for the faith you have in me, I can assure you that this is not the case. I am a TV presenter, it's my passion, and that is what I want to keep doing," Ms Spiteri wrote on her Facebook page.

The rumours appear to have mounted after it emerged that her programme Malta Llejla will stop being aired on Net TV from the autumn schedule.

When contacted, Ms Spiteri said: "I have always steered away from politics because it is not a priority for me... and very simply I don't follow politics."

She said she was currently planning a new daily TV programme which will go on air in the coming months, though she would not give further details.
