The Turkish cemetery in Marsa, designed by Emmanuele Luigi Galizia, is the subject of a lecture and visit being organised by Flimkien għal Ambjent Aħjar.
Galizia, one of Malta’s most distinguished architects, was also responsible for several other important monuments and edifices around the island, including the Addolorata cemetery, police stations, public fountains, summer residences along Rudolph Street in Sliema, and many others.
His style ranged from the neo-classical, to the neo-gothic to the orientalist in inspiration. Top expert and author Conrad Thake will lead a journey of discovery into the beauty of Galizia’s work.
The lecture is taking place tomorrow at Palazzo de la Salle in Valletta at 7pm. The tour will then be held on Saturday, with participants meeting at the Turkish cemetery at 10am.
