A public garden in Marsalforn is finally receiving a much-needed facelift following months of neglect which had turned this public space into an eyesore.
However, this will result in the paving of a small patch of soil which until last year used to be maintained by the Environmental Landscape Consortium. The latter is a public private partnership, specialising in the embellishment of public spaces.
Though no replies were ever received by the Gozo Ministry to the questions which this newspaper had sent several weeks ago when it had flagged the site’s state of neglect, sources said that these works form part of the Marsalforn master plan which has been in the offing for a number of years.

According to revised plans submitted to the planning authority last month, this part of the garden is earmarked for the placing of tables and chairs.

Located a stone’s throw away from the promenade in Triq il-Munġbell, this garden falls under the direct responsibility of the Gozo Ministry, even though the seaside village is within the confines of the Żebbuġ council.
Its “unacceptable” state had been flagged by deputy mayor Daniel Cordina who through Facebook, had publicly called on the government to take action.
Reacting to the start of works Mr Cordina welcomed the development while noting that he had been assured by the ministry that none of the existing trees would be uprooted during the paving works.
