Three pairs of twins born at Mater Dei Hospital over the past days have bumped the total number of babies born through state-funded IVF treatment past 100.
61 girls and 43 boys were born to mothers through some 572 cycles of treatment since the government began offering free IVF treatment at Mater Dei Hospital in January 2015. A further 24 mothers are currently pregnant and have yet to give birth.
Of the 104 children born through IVF at Mater Dei, 26 are twins (13 pairs) and three are triplets (one pair).
Health Minister and deputy Prime Minister Chris Fearne thanked workers who ensured the service at Mater Dei's ART Clinic, calling the births "a miracle of life".
"89 families would never have been able to experience the joys of parenthood," he said.
The government, he added, would be amending the Embryo Protection Act next year to extend free IVF treatment services to more women.
