Two people were hospitalised early on Friday morning after they were run over as they were crossing the road in a hit-and-run accident in Cospicua, the police said.

Three children who were accompanying them at the time, managed to avoid the impact, which happened in Triq Dom Mintoff at 1.20am.

The couple, both 35 from Żabbar, were taken to hospital in an ambulance but their injuries are not serious. The children aged 13, 9, and 16, had just about crossed the road, the police said.

The driver has not yet been tracked down with the police saying there appeared to be no other witnesses at the time.
