With days ticking to Valletta being crowned the European Capital of Culture, the thousands walking into the city could only watch in despair as they saw the crass signal pointing to the city entrance. 

The word 'Valletta' has been sprayed in red onto the hoarding leading to City Gate as works continue around the Tritons Fountain area, followed by other arrows sprayed along the way.

In the past months, several commuters have also complained about the rough terrain leading towards City Gate.
