Is it time to make a stand against excess packaging?

M&S are coming under fire for selling a cauliflower cut in half, wrapping it in plastic and calling it a cauliflower steak. And Sainsbury's are selling an 'organic coconut' wrapped in plastic packaging. pic.twitter.com/fQ95GgGdwC
First we had packaged bananas, and now cauliflowers and coconuts have also been given a marketing touch, driving environmentalists round the bend.
Marks & Spencer attracted ridicule for selling a slice of cauliflower wrapped in plastic for £2.50 - almost four times the price of a whole one bought from a greengrocer.
The upmarket food retailer's "cauliflower steak", launched as part of its new Veggie range, comes with a sachet of lemon and herb drizzle and is contained within a plastic tray and wrapping. Consumers were quick to mock the product, while many raised concerns about the potential environmental impact of the packaging.
And Sainsbury's added a a cardboard stand, plastic ring pull and straw to their coconuts. Eco-warriers would take little solace from the fact that the coconuts are 'organic'.
