The University of Malta’s In­sti­tute for Tourism, Travel and Culture is launching a study unit called Airline Business Management, with effect from February 1. It is being coordinated by Alfred Quintano and is being offered to third-year BA (Hons) in Tourism Studies students and  the public.

It consists of 14 two-hour sessions that will cover topics such as airline organisational structures, aeropolitics, marketing, distribution systems, revenue management, cost structures, global alliances, network and fleet planning, and business modelling.

Member of Global Reporting Initiative’s Stakeholder Council

University of Malta academic Mark Anthony Camilleri was recently nominated a member of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI)’s Stakeholder Council. He will represent European civil society organisations.

The GRI is an international, independent standards or­gani­sation that helps businesses and governments under­stand and communicate their impact on critical sustainability is­sues, such as climate change, human rights, governance and social well-being. The GRI Sustainability Reporting Standards are developed with multi-stakeholder contributions and are rooted in the public interest.

Conference on Anti-Money Laundering Directive

The Malta Institute of Accoun­tants will hold a conference on the recently enac­ted EU Anti-Money Laundering Directive on February 20 at Xara Lodge, l/o Rabat.

The directive includes  changes to the anti-money laundering procedures, including changes to customer due diligence, a central register for beneficial owners, and a focus on the risk based procedure.

The conference will be addressed by Manfred Galdes (ARQ Group Malta), Ian Gauci (GTG Advocates), Rakele Gauci (BDO Malta) Alex Mangion (FIAU) and Anthony Cremona (Ganado Advocates).
