The Żejtun local council and Spazjarti will today be organising a literature night with a difference for adults by author Trevor Zahra.
Those attending will be able to listen and know more about the best publications of this author in connection with the town of Żejtun. He will give details about the illustrations with the use of projections, and answer questions from the public.
There will also be a book-signing session.
Zahra, born in Żejtun in 1947, has more than 130 publications to date in Maltese. His first children’s adventure, Il-Pulena tad-Deheb was published in 1971. Since then, he never stopped writing novels, poems, workbooks and short stories. He digged up into his childhood memories and upbringing, having related closely with local lore and traditions as narrated by his aunt and grandmother.
He holds the record for winning the national literary prize, most times for both children and adult fiction 18 times.
In December 2004, the President of the Malta decorated him with the Medal for Service to the Republic, in recognition of his contribution towards children’s literature and in 2017 was awarded Ġieħ iż-Żejtun.
His style of writing, unique in its marrying accessibility with artfully-constructed, deceptively simple language, full of humour and imaginative thinking, and his clear illustrative drawings that complement his writings, make Zahra one of the most popular writer and illustrator of children’s books in Malta.
The event is being held today at the Żejtun local council, St Angelo Street, Żejtun, at 7pm. Entrance is free. For more information, call on 2166 3866 or send an e-mail on chircop.sean@gmail.com.
