In my twilight years, I have come to recognise how the human being can be so hypocritical, inconsistent in his arguments and deceitful.

A hullabaloo is created over an endangered species of animal or some exotic plant or fish. We Maltese know no better. We bemoan the Azure Window and try to replace it by some artificial structure, we try to protect a dilapidated house, a crab, a little fish or some shrunken tree. Yet, very few are those who stand up in protest to protect innocent beings and life from its conception.

Protect nature and its beautiful surroundings but start with the innocent child. Without the birth of that child, nature might as well not exist.

We do miss the wood for the trees.
