The Malta International Airport registered a record year in terms of passenger movements which reached six million as well as profits which rose by €3.2 million to €24.2 million.

The 2018 forecast is also positive, with MIA expecting passenger movements to keep rising to 6.5 million and profits to soar to €28 million.

Details on MIA’s performance during financial year 2017 were given on Tuesday during the 26th annual general meeting. Net dividend was at 10c per share.
Ryanair carried most passengers followed by Air Malta, Easy Jet and Lufthansa.

During the AGM it was also announced that works on the new multi storey car park would start towards the end of this year. This €20 million investment is part of a major overhaul which MIA is embarking on, to expand its operations.

Another €40 million are being spent to reconfigure terminal facilities, while a further €40 million will be invested on Skyparks 2 project.

The latter will comprise more office and commercial space as well as a hotel which will have between 80 and 100 rooms. The airport is also eyeing a future expansion of the central part of the terminal in an area currently used as a car park.
