The Labour Party parliamentary group has agreed with the Opposition leader's proposal to appoint George Hyzler as Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards.
With this appointment, suggested by Adrian Delia, the government has shown its determination to improve governance and transparency in the country, the PL group said in a statement.
Dr Hyzler, a well-known lawyer, had served as a parliamentary secretary under the Nationalist Party administration.
In a statement, the Democratic Party welcomed Dr Hyzler's appointment and noted that it had been calling for a Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards since a Bill to create the post was passed in March 2017.
Upon my recommendation, @PL_Malta parliamentary group agreed to @adriandeliapn nomination of George Hyzler as Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards. A first ever decision that will put in place another legislation increasing governance and transparency -JM
