Parliament will not meet on Tuesday, after the government and Opposition agreed that the anniversary of Daphne Caruana Galizia's murder should be marked.

Ms Caruana Galizia was killed a year ago, on October 16, by a car bomb as she drove away from her home.

Since then, her death has been marked by her supporters on the 16th of every month in various ways.

The government and a dedicated group of her followers have been locked in a battle over a makeshift shrine created at the Great Siege monument in Valletta, which has been cleared away and re-established over a dozen times in the past months.

However, MP Jason Azzopardi's request for the anniversary to be marked by Parliament was approved, Government Whip Byron Camilleri said, noting that agreement was reached between the government and the Opposition.

In the meantime, a motion by the Nationalist Party has called officially for a public inquiry into the assassination of Daphne Caruana Gazlia, calling for the resignation of the Attorney General and the Police Commissioner.

The Nationalist Party first made its call for a special commission a few days ago.

The motion, signed by Opposition leader Adrian Delia, MP Karol Aquilina, and MP Robert Cutajar, on behalf of the PN parliamentary group, called for the board of inquiry to be composed of people known "for their honesty and integrity" with the chairman to be appointed by the prime minister after a two-thirds majority vote by the House of Representatives.

It also said that the report should be completed within six months, should be presented to the Speaker and should be published in full by the Clerk of the House.

The Labour Party condemned the motion, saying it undermined the work already being done by investigators. It said there were manoeuvres from various fronts colluding to obfuscate justice. Furthermore, Dr Delia could hardly speak about Caruana Galizia, having belittled her in her life. This motion was nothing more bring together the two factions of the PN, it said.
