A "positive" meeting with the advisory body of the Council of Europe acknowledged Malta's "considerable improvement" when it comes to the judiciary reform, the Deputy Prime Minister said on Monday.
Chris Fearne and Justice Minister Owen Bonnici met a delegation from the Venice Commission, which provides recommendations about constitutional and legal issues relating to the rule of law.
Following the meeting, Dr Bonnici referred to recent reforms such as party financing legislation, adding that the government will be implementing additional reforms.
Times of Malta reported last month on a request by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe’s (PACE) Legal Affairs Committee to look into the state of Malta’s structures in light of recent concerns voiced by MEPS. As a result, the Venice Commission will be unveiling its opinion in December.
On Monday, the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and the Justice Ministry said in a statement that the Venice Commission will, on the government's request, draw up a report analysing the country's institutions, among others.
